Another year! How are your shins doing?

There could be an estimate of 55 million people over the age of 65 by next year 2020. Impaired wound healing will cost Medicare and all of us billions of dollars each year. The wound healing process is complex and hard to get my mind around sometimes. Aging is an inevitable part of life. Before my Dad passed last year he said “I can’t fight aging”. None of us can, however, there are some things we can do to help prevent the effects of oxidative stress and it’s detrimental effects it has on the healing process as we age. It will benefit you to learn more about oxidative stress and the internet will help. Eating organic foods, grass fed beef, lots of fruits and fresh vegetables, zinc containing foods and Vitamin C have antioxidant effects that help wound healing. Wash off all pesticides, and stay clear of all processed foods as they will reduce the antioxidant activity of aging body cells. Exercise the best you can every day. Even a short walk will help circulate the blood around . And for heaven sake wear your shin protectors.

Happy New Year!
